Laser Running Vers.2.0 (2020)

554 seconds | 1920 x 1080 | Dieter Robnig | 01/23/2023
We have been organising laser running from the Alpine rue since 1983. As one of the oldest and most beautiful high mountain ski touring runs, this competition is known far beyond Austria's borders and enjoys great popularity. We managed to run the race 22 times over the original track from the Lavant Forcha via the Lavanteralm to the Laserztörl and then on to the finish line at the Kreithof. sometimes only consider alternatives on race day or even cancel them.

Due to the changing winter conditions, we are breaking new ground from 2020:

In the future, laser running will always take place on the last Sunday in February and a new, challenging route can also be completed. We are also introducing a hobby class that, in addition to ambitious tourers, should also offer beginners in racing an unforgettable day in the Laserz.

Here are the route data with the most important key points:

RACING CLASS women and men
Start and finish at the Kreithof, ascent towards the Dolomitenhütte, shortly before turning off to the “Milchsteig” with carrying passage, past the Weißsteinalm to the “Hanhbichl”, descent to the “Premstall” road, ascent to the Karlsabder hut and on to the “Schartenschartlbödele”, descent towards Laserzsee, ascent with carrying passage via a gutter left of the Laserztörl, mountain descent Laserztörl. The descent remains unchanged past the Karlovy Vary and Dolomitenhütte on to your destination at the Kreithof. Ascent: 1800 m, descent: 1450 m

HOBBY CLASS women and men
Start and finish at the Kreithof, ascent to the Dolomitenhütte, on to the Innsteinalm, past the “Marcher Stein” to the mountain arrival in the Karlsbaderhütte area. The descent to the part between Laserztörl and Karlsbaderhütte is identical to the racing class. Ascent: 1200 m, descent: 1200 m

With this “new variant”, we hope to continue to present our laser running as a mountaineering highlight and will try to carry out this traditional race in the usual high quality.

What doesn't change:

The alpine rue wants to continue to be in open terrain with laser running and thus set high quality standards, but does not compromise on safety. If conditions permit, the Laserztörl will be retained as a mountain arrival. The racing class should continue to be highly challenged, but the hobby enthusiast should also be encouraged to participate. The closing event is supposed to be familiar with the “Pickel Medal”, the great trophies and the many raffle prizes.

New winner on a new track at the 33rd laser run

Christian Hoffman couldn't be beat. The new hobby class was well received.

133 participants took on the 33rd laser race on a new track in the heart of the Lienz Dolomites last Sunday, February 23.

“As laser running is one of the last ski touring races in alpine terrain in Austria, the field of participants was top-class and internationally staffed. All participants found the new route guidance to be absolutely unique,” said Stefan Stern, chairman of the organizing alpine rue Lienz.

133 athletes competed in the race class and 59 athletes were able to perform in the hobby class.

The race class runners had to overcome a height difference of 1,820 meters, including carrying sections and intermediate descents. Christian Hoffmann could not be beat on this race distance. The former world-class cross-country athlete needed 1:48 .13 hours for the route from the Kreithof to the Laserztörl and back (törl time 1:34 .19).

Local hero Martin Weisskopf crossed the finish line in second place, followed closely by Italian Philipp Götsch.

The former world-class cross-country athlete, Christian Hoffmann, celebrated his first victory in laser racing on a new track.

In the women's standings, Ina Forchthammer won with a total time of 2:35 .02 hours. With a shortened race variant of over 1,250 meters of altitude difference from the Kreithof to the Karlsbader Hut, ambitious amateur athletes should also be approached for the first time. Quite a success — 59 athletes ranged up in the hobby class.
